Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt seem like ages ago to have been a thing, and that’s true… Up to a degree. In 2016, the two stars divorced from each other but remain stuck in divorce proceedings. Today brings news that Jolie has now requested the dismissal of the private judge who has overseen those hearings.
“As reported by the Associated Press, Angelina Jolie argued in a filing sent to the Superior Court of Los Angeles that John W. Ouderkirk should be removed from the divorce case because “it refused to reveal the cases that showed the current, continuing, repeat-customer partnership between the judge and the lawyer of the respondent.
“In addition, Angelina Jolie’s filing argues that Anne Kiley “successfully supported the financial interests of Judge Ouderkirk in moving, despite the objections of the opposing side, to prolong his tenure (and his right to continue to collect fees) in a high-profile case.” The filing goes on to state that it questions the ability of John Ouderkirk to remain neutral, and while Jolie’s lawyers tried t In an email to AP, Jolie’s counsel, Samantha Bley DeJean, said the following:
What my client is calling for, as laid out in the filing, is a fair hearing based on evidence, with no special advantages given to either party. The only way that litigators can trust the mechanism is to ensure fairness and impartiality for all involved.
It is uncertain how things will progress from here, but for Angelina Jolie and her staff, this is obviously a hot button problem. Anne Kiley and the lead counsel for Brad Pitt, Lance Spiegel, did not speak to AP on the matter, nor did Ouderkirk.
Meeting each other as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were a couple for 12 years and married in 2014 while working on the 2005 action flick, and they have six children together. Technically speaking, after their legal teams filed for a bifurcated verdict, the two of them were pronounced divorced in April 2019. This means that it is possible to mark Jolie and Pitt as singles.
There are also some problems to be sorted out, however, but it is uncertain precisely what those are due to the sealing off much of the papers. That said, in 2018, Angelina Jolie alleged that Brad Pitt was not paying enough child custody, which was disputed by Pitt’s attorneys.
As for why Angelina Jolie wanted to divorce Brad Pitt, back in June, the actress announced that it was for her family’s “well-being” and the “right decision” to make. There is quite a way to go until the two stars are behind this legal affair, but luckily, Jolie and Pitt are currently on good terms as they are closer to reaching a settlement as of last month.
