All the way from 1998 through 2006, Topher Grace was capturing our adoration in That 70s’ Show, the popular sitcom aired by Fox. So, we have some good news as Grace will soon return to network TV for a role that we are assuming would be just as big. However, this is still subject to change, but Grace has booked a role in the new TV pilot Home Economics.
Apart from being one of the leads in Home Economics pilot, he has also signed up as an executive producer. A job he reportedly took on eagerly having been offered a generous deal. In the show, Topher Grace will play the middle child, Tom, between his filthy rich brother and money troubled sister.
Being barely a successful novelist, though fairly comfortable in his intellect, and a father of twins, Tom starts to be stressed out while wishing for more consistency. Still hoping to be at least to some extent as successful as his brother, Tom cannot get rid of the fear that he will end up like his sister.
Based on the script, Home Economics could be a drama or a comedy, and depends on what tone the producers will choose to take. Based on their past projects like Penguins of Madagascar, Leverage, and Children’s Hospital, the creators, Michael Colton and John Aboud, are more likely to fill the show up with absurdity and weird humor being big fans of such.
Topher Grace himself faced some absurdity and weird humor in other projects throughout the years as his career evolved between That 70s’ Show ending in 2006 and now. To name a few, Spider Man 3 Venom, Take Me Home Tonight and Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman. We will also see him soon in Jon Stewart’s comedy, Irresistible, coming out on May 29, 2020 and also starring Steve Carrell and Rose Byrne.
Additionally, he’s been featured on such TV giants as The Simpsons, Drunk History and Black Mirror Season 5. In 2013, Grace won an Emmy for Outstanding New Approaches for his The Beauty Inside series.
Since That 70s’ Show is still widely popular among fans, if Home Economics makes it into a series everyone will be all eyes on any possible mini reunions with Topher’s former cast colleagues. Worth mentioning is that some of them, including Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Laura Prepon, are either done with their recent TV shows or haven’t yet been engaged in new ones.
We have high hopes on Home Economics making it beyond the pilot and turning into a series. Meanwhile, check out our TV schedule for what’s coming next this spring.
